Training Centre Direct are experienced professionals and have been running recruitment events free of charge since 2010.
Our very first event was with Lewisham College and helping younger students gain employment with local lift companies. We have since partnered with North West Kent, Uxbridge and Bromley colleges together with Bexleyheath Academy secondary school in promoting lift engineering apprenticeships.
Since 2013 we have also supported adult learners transition into new jobs by using their existing transferable skills for more senior job roles. Browse on this page where you'll see our rich history of us running employer open days where lift employers were acquainted with our candidates who were looking for work and wanting to start new careers using their existing transferable skills.
Looking for a more innovative way of making contact with new people? Have a look here where you'll get to see a selection of our most recent candidates that have completed our training and ready for work in your lift business, hear what they say and get that feeling of 'is it right for me', that you won't get on a CV!
The start of 2022 saw a new way of recruiting entry level talent for the vertical transportation sector.
The lift & escalator industry employment open day, brought together by PEW Electrical Distributors (PEW) and specialist lift training and employment provider Training Centre Direct (TCD) has proven to be a huge success. Over 60% of our new lift trainees have now been placed into work mainly in the Greater London region.
Rob Hughes, Director of TCD commented “Our new lift industry training courses are very well run with the aim of helping people get back into full time work”, he continued “We also help local lift employers fill job vacancies cost effectively, which could not have happened without the kind support of Andrew, Jason and Adrian of Barking based PEW, whose ongoing loyalty has been constant since 2009”.
Our partnership model not only includes PEW & TCD but a number of key operating lift & escalator companies throughout London, M25 and the home counties. We have delivered dozens of training courses, you can take a look at some of our previous courses by clicking the button at the bottom of this page.

We offer a free of charge 5-day work experience placement on all jobs.
This provides the employer with an opportunity to monitor the new worker while at work. It’s useful to see the workers motivation levels and attitude in the workplace during this period. To make the most of a 5-day work experience placement, it’s important for employers to be proactive and ask questions, observe and learn and oversea their potential new employees to see if it’s a good fit.
At the end of the 5 days, you decide whether to employ them or not.
We are committed to helping our job seekers succeed in the lift industry, which is why we deliver the classroom training around safe access/egress when working on lifts.
We teach learning for new entrants to get on top of lift cars, such as landing safety barriers, landing door release keys, lift ‘out of order’ signs, door blocking devices (for holding doors open), full personal protective equipment (PPE) kits. We instruct how to activate stop switch on top of car, ensuring normal & inspection switch is placed on inspection control and how to check the lift is safe by pressing a landing call (once all safeties have been performed).
And we do the same for people to enter lifts pits too, for both traction and hydraulic lift systems…!
Later and if needed, you could then enroll your new worker on an EOR202N course which is assessed online, using our e-portfolio which is available 24/7. Your new worker simply uploads their work evidence (lift photos, site safety requirements and their own method statements of each completed job) to their online account which is assessed with feedback recorded by an experienced assessor. We offer a discount on this course and deliver this free with any NVQ2.
If you want to take advantage of this course, we encourage you to consider our candidates who we are placing for job interviews.
